This poster celebrates the start of the Soviet offensive at the Leningrad and Volkhov Fronts that had lifted the Siege of Leningrad.
Magnushevsky (Leningrad VKhUTEIN, class of 1925) worked primarily as a book illustrator. During the war, he became a military artist, served at the Leningrad Front, and in 1943 was assigned to the Leningrad TASS Windows team. Overall, the artist produced over 30 posters for the LenTASS Windows and LenTASS Windows for the Front series.
As an aside, the earliest reference to a work by Magnushevsky we have found is the list of participants of the 1922 Stage Designs Exhibition in Petrograd, where the young artist's designs shared space with the work of such famous artists as Altman, Annensky, Benua, Petrov-Vodkin, and Tatlin.
