ELKIN, V. The Cavalry Guard's Song, 1942
Konnogvardeiskaya Pesnya [The Cavalry Guard's Song], a poster by Vasily Elkin (1897-1991). Iskusstvo, Moscow -Leningrad, 1942, 51 x 70.5 cm.
This poster was inspired by a short poem by Evgeny Dolmatovsky (1915 -1994). The title, and the fact that Dolmatovsky's credits include lyrics to numerous popular songs, suggest that there may exist a song by the same name. If this is the case, it never gained popularity, as we could not find the score.
A 1928 graduate of VKhUTEIN, Vasily Elkin was an influential posterist, magazine artist, and book designer. His posters were exhibited internationally, starting with the Die Presse international exhibition in Cologne (1928). At the start of his career, Elkin actively worked in the photomontage technique, receiving high praise from Klutsis. Later he had migrated to a more traditional style, adapting to the requirements of the period.
