FEDURA, M. [Modern Turkmen Family, 1930s]
An untitled lithographed sheet depicting a model Turkmen family enjoying life in their modern house. Turkmen State Publishing, Ashgabat, [1930s?], 59 x 91.5 cm.
An article about Turkmenistan in the Grand Soviet Encyclopedia mentions M. Fedura as one of the prominent local posterists of the 1920s and 1930s. In addition, an article about book publishing in Turkmenistan mentions Fedura as one of the leading local book illustrators. It noted that prior to 1950, Turkmen State Publishing rarely produced illustrated books, with the exception of school textbooks — Turkmen-language books were mostly printed in Tashkent. We have also came across several references of Fedura's designed kilims, the flat-weave Turkmen rugs.
